Cambridge Crane Operator Classes - For the supervisors and the operators, new and current, the crane operator training course is suitable for all. Course content addresses relevant state, federal and provincial safety regulations. The first part of training includes complete in-class lessons and exam. After that is a customized hands-on session with practical instruction and evaluation.
Course content applies to all types and categories of overhead lifting equipment. Specific instruction would concentrate on aspects of crane operation utilized at the trainee's workplace. Upon completion of the course, people training will learn how to operate particular overhead lifting devices, related components and attachments in an efficient and safe way.
The purpose of the operator course is to identify any potentially dangerous habits which an operator might develop when operating an overhead crane. Costly damage to products and equipment can be avoided with correct habits. Training reduces the likelihood of a workplace injury or incident happening.
The duration of the course is eight hours of classroom instruction followed by a few hours of customized, on-site, hands-on training. Participants are graded on their knowledge of training material through written testing and an assessment of their practical knowledge. The minimum acceptable score is eighty percent.
The in-class session, the trainee will know regarding causes of damages and occurrences, guidelines and legislation, hazard awareness, internal responsibility, basic equipment and design principles, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, pre-shift equipment inspections, safe hoisting/operating techniques, equipment applications/rigging, types of hardware, angles and hitches, pedestrian/operator safety, flipping/turning loads safely, hand signals for operators and slingers.
The practical training and evaluation part of the course should be pre-scheduled. This customized portion of the training will be held at the trainees' facility. The duration of this practical training part is one to two hours. The instructor will train two operators at a time on skills such as correct rigging practices, safe operation and planning the lift.
After finishing both the in-class instruction and the practical training and evaluation, the trainee would be tested via an exam. Each participant will be needed to sign the safety rules. Individual wallet certificates would be given to successful trainees. A framed wall certificate would be provided to the company.
